New Disaster Relief Fund Available for Homeless Students

On April 25th, 2018, the U.S. Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education issued a notice of funding to state and local education agencies to help students that were impacted by Hurricanes Irma, Harvey, and Maria and the wildfires in California. It is estimated that $2.5 billion will be available under the Temporary Emergency Impact Aid for Displaced Students and the Assistance for Homeless Children and Youth programs, out of which $25 million will be allocated to assist students that are experiencing homelessness due to a disaster or an emergency. 

The deadline to apply for the Homeless Children and Youth Program is Friday, May 25th, 2018.
