Housing Choice and Affordability:
Unlocking Opportunity
Â
Join us for our third IForum -Â Housing Choice and Affordability: Unlocking Opportunity. This IForum will be held on Thursday, March 31st with light breakfast and conversation from 8:30 am - 9:00 am and the program running from 9:00 am - 11:00 am.Â
Demographic trends indicate that more housing options are needed if Connecticut’s towns are to remain healthy and vibrant. Increasingly, high-resource municipalities are proactively evaluating their housing choices and enacting new zoning to provide the multi-family, mixed-income housing that the market is demanding. How can towns invite the development that’s needed to ready their communities for the next generation?Â
Speakers will share:Â
- The legacy of past housing-policy practices.Â
- How the lack of housing choice affects children, their families, and town fiscal health and economic growth.Â
- Examples of how mixed-income housing is helping a variety of communities position themselves for success in the 21st Century.
Join us and the CT Chapter of the American Planning Association as we explore these questions in what is bound to be a robust conversation, featuring:
- Welcome: Tom Condon, Hartford Courant columnist and editor
- Keynote Speaker:Â Richard Rothstein, Research Associate, Economic Policy Institute, Washington D.C.
