USICH Amends Opening Doors

U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness

The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness has made amendments to Opening Doors – a nationwide initiative to end chronic and Veteran homelessness by 2015, end homelessness for families, youth and children by 2020 and set a path to end all types of homelessness.

The amendment covers 2 sections:

  1. Improving Educational Outcomes for Children and Youth
  2. Meeting the Needs of Unaccompanied Youth

The 1st section amends objective 5 to include language on educational outcomes and by adding more strategies addressing improved education outcomes. It also amends Objective 2 to include strategies to address increasing knowledge and awareness of successful collaborations and interventions that increase access to and retention in high-quality educational programs.

The 2nd section amends Objective 8 which has been expanded to describe the steps needed to allocate resources to assist unaccompanied youth while considering the level of intervention appropriate to the circumstances.
