Smart Growth Forum Focuses on Sustainable Communities

Putting sustainability into practice was the focus of discussion at this year’s New England Smart Growth Forum organized by the Lincoln Institute on Land Policy.

The forum, attended by Partnership Senior Policy Analyst Christy Rubenstein, featured presentations by a number of organizations working on HUD Sustainable Communities Planning Grants, including the local Knowledge Corridor Sustainable Communities Initiative that is focused on the Hartford-Springfield region.

Held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the forum also included speakers looking at issues related to planning for, crafting policies around and implementing projects related to sustainability. Lyle Wray, Executive Director of the Capitol Region Council of  Governments (based in Hartford), and Tim Brennan, Executive Director of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (in Springfield), spoke about the challenges of developing a framework for moving plans forward and measuring the impact of those efforts.

More details about the forum are available here.
