Regional Forums Bring Housing Market Data, Know-How To Municipalities

Providing housing market profiles for every municipality in the state and regional data on factors affecting housing creation, the Connecticut Association of Realtors, the Partnership for Strong Communities and the HOPE Partnership have sponsored housing forums in virtually every region of Connecticut this summer and fall to underscore the changing housing market and the ways to create needed affordable housing options across the state.

Wednesday’s forum for the municipalities in the Southwest Regional Planning Agency was the 11th of the forums, which began in June. They have provided mayors, first selectmen, planners, zoning commissioners, business and community leaders and housing advocates with state-, region- and municipality-specific data on housing prices, needs and markets.

Funded with a grant from the Realtors, the forums have been organized by the Partnership for Strong Communities and Old Saybrook’s HOPE Partnership. Presenters representing the Home Builders Association of Connecticut, the Local Iniatives Support Corporation (LISC), the Connecticut Housing Coalition, the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority (CHFA), the CT State Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), the Connecticut chapter of the American Planning Association and the Regional Plan Association  have provided strategies for planning affordable housing, financing it and promoting community understanding and support.
