Our New Communications & Development Director - Susan Campbell!

 

Susan Campbell has joined the Partnership for Strong Communities as communications & development director. Her responsibilities will include helping frame the Partnership’s message – as with the Partnership’s new blog -- and exploring new funding opportunities.

Susan is a veteran journalist whose work has appeared in various state newspapers, including, for 26 years, at the Hartford Courant, where her column in 1998 was part of the newspaper’s Pulitzer Prize for breaking news.

Her work has also appeared in the New Haven Register, the Middletown Press, and the Torrington Register Citizen, as well as on Salon.com, the BBC, CBS, and the local news show “Face the State.” She is a frequent contributor on WNPR. Her memoir, “Dating Jesus: Fundamentalism, Feminism, and the American Girl” was a 2010 Connecticut Book award winner. Her biography of Isabella Beecher Hooker will be published in Spring 2014 by Wesleyan University Press. She teaches various writing workshops around the state, including at Mark Twain House & Museum and she write a monthly column for the Connecticut Health Investigative Team at www.c-hit.org.

She is an adjunct professor of communications at Manchester Community College, and she co-created and currently maintains a religion blog, “Hot Dogma!”.

The mother of two adult sons and the grandmother of seven, she has a bachelor's degree from University of Maryland, and a master's degree from Hartford Seminary, and she lives in East Haven with her husband.
