NHC Releases 2015 Paycheck to Paycheck Report

The National Housing Conference and Center for Housing Policy have released their 2015 Paycheck to Paycheck report. This annual report that looks at housing affordability and compares wages to housing costs in 208 metro areas across the country was released on September 29. This year’s edition has a special focus on millennials and examines, in depth, the housing affordability challenges for administrative assistant, retail cashier, e-commerce customer service representative, food service manager and cardiac technician, the five occupations most commonly held by millennials.

Bridgeport is ranked the 23rd most expensive metro area for homeownership, with a median home price of $340,000 (an increase from being ranked 24th last year). Bridgeport also had the 11th largest change in income needed to rent a 2 bedroom home from $46,440 last year to $51,314 this year, a 10.5% change. New Haven was ranked the 22nd most expensive metro area for renting, with a 2 bedroom fair market rent of $1,316; last year, New Haven was ranked 28th.
