Legal Suit Over Supportive Housing in Derby Resolved

New Haven Legal Assistance Association, Inc

New Haven Legal Assistance Association reports that in October 2012, the City of Derby withdrew pending appeals and paid $2.845 million in damages, interest, and attorney’s fees to housing developer Home, Inc.  In 2006 the Home Inc filed a federal Fair Housing Act lawsuit against Derby for its three year refusal to grant them the zoning permits necessary to renovate three blighted properties for use as supportive housing for persons with disabilities.

Since then, the disputed properties have been renovated into supportive housing units and are now fully occupied by individuals receiving services from counselors at BHCare.
