It's Time to Discuss Housing! CHC's Annual Housing Conference is Almost Here

Jenna Ferguson is the Outreach and Events Coordinator at the Connecticut Housing Coalition

Connecticut is leading the nation in its commitment to affordable and supportive housing. Unprecedented new investment is being made in housing for homeless, low-income, and moderate-income households that will transform the way that we develop, own and manage affordable housing communities. Beyond improving housing quality and creating better options for thousands of families across the state, these new investments will spur economic opportunity and create a stable foundation for community revitalization and growth.

This exciting work will be showcased, as always, at the Connecticut Housing Coalition’s annual conference - the state’s largest gathering of affordable housing developers, service providers, advocates and resident leaders. The day-long conference draws attendees from every part of Connecticut who come together to celebrate, learn and challenge ourselves. This year’s conference will take place on Tuesday, September 29th at the Connecticut Convention Center, 100 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, Connecticut.

This year’s plenary session features Chris Estes, President and CEO of the National Housing Conference. NHC serves as a resource for the affordable housing community on housing policy issues, communications and messaging and research on both the challenges and best practices in affordable housing today. Chris leads the organization’s strategic direction for its policy, communications and research work and serves as a national thought leader on affordable housing and community development issues.

Additionally, workshops at this year’s conference focus on topics such as: the National Housing Trust fund; the Connecticut Uniform Relocation Act; youth, veteran, and chronic homelessness; housing and healthcare; data to advance affordable housing; a walking tour of Adriaen’s Landing; strategies for producing permanent supportive housing; co-housing; initiatives for creating affordable housing; improving energy performance; historic tax credits; funding initiatives; and section 8 for rental and homeownership choice.
