HUD Announces $15 Million for Family Unification Vouchers

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded $15 million to fund 1,931 Housing Choice (Section 8) Vouchers for the Family Unification Program (FUP). The vouchers will be used to reunite foster children with their biological parents, as well as prevent children from entering the foster care system in the first place due to inadequate housing. Public housing authorities will work with child welfare agencies to identify families with children already in foster care or children at risk of being placed in foster care or experiencing homelessness.

Of note, Connecticut was awarded $38,597 to fund four vouchers.
