House Subcommittee Works to Help Homeless Veterans

The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity met multiple times in September to discuss issues pertinent to veterans.

The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity approved by voice vote H.R.6361, the Vulnerable Veterans Housing Reform Act on September 12, 2012. The Act would exempt expenses related to a veteran’s aid and attendant pension payments from counting as income in determining eligibility and payments from HUD programs.

That subcommittee also held a hearing on September 14 – Housing for Heroes: Examining How Federal programs Can Better Serve Veterans – to discuss H.R. 6361 and H.R 6381, the Housing Assistance for Veterans (HAVEN) Act. HAVEN would authorize grants to qualified organizations to rehabilitate and modify the homes of disabled or low income veterans.
