Health Care 911- Frequent Users of the Healthcare System

A five-part series from the San Diego U-T called Health Care 911 explores the issue of frequent users of health services who tend to be individuals suffering from homelessness.  Health Care 911 shares national and local research while showing the viewer the experiences of emergency room physicians, emergency responders, and the individuals who are frequent users.

The five parts are broken down as such:

  1. How a mostly homeless group makes disproportionate use of 911 and hospital ERs.
  2. How emergency crews are constantly caring for the same sick people.
  3. Why revolving door patients drain resources.
  4. A new strategy to help some frequent users change their lives.
  5. Case study of an individual trying to break the cycle.
