Government Shutdown Impacts Homelessness Programs

National Alliance to End Homelessness

Steve Berg, vice president for programs and policy at the National Alliance to End Homelessness, writes in an NAEH blog about how the government shutdown -- which began at midnight Monday -- will affect anti-homelessness programs around the country.

Short-term, the effect will be minimal, given that most programs are using funds from earlier years. Programs such as HUD and HHS homelessness programs, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Public Housing Agencies, and programs such as SNAP/food stamps should continue to operate unabated for the next few weeks, with not much change in service.

If the shutdown continues, however, as Berg writes, "things will get more complicated." You can read the blog here.
