Encouraging Healing and Recovery for Nearly 40 Years

Founded in 1977 by a small but tenacious group of family members to provide advocacy, community education and support, InterCommunity, Inc., has grown, thrived and become one of the Hartford area’s key behavioral health providers for adults and children. Our mission:  helping people living with mental illness and addiction disorders improve their quality of life by providing opportunities for healing and recovery.

In 2012, we proudly celebrated our 35th anniversary. From our humble beginning in the South Glastonbury Congregational Church basement, we have grown to become a respected and vital organization that provides behavioral health services to over 3,000 people each year.

We have not taken this journey alone. We celebrate all those who have worked with us to bring awareness to mental health issues. Here we are so many years later, comprised of members, consumers, volunteers and staff of various backgrounds who have come together to develop our spirits, minds, and bodies in a nurturing and encouraging environment. We have been committed to transforming the way behavioral health care is delivered in every aspect of someone’s life by delivering the right care, at the right time, in the right place. People from every generation and from every social, economical and religious background are affected by mental health and addictions disorders. We provide services to people from all walks of life, including those who have high-paying, high-power jobs.

People recover from these illnesses and become productive, contributing members in society. Part of the problem is so many people lose hope. We’re here to give it back to them, and show them that healing and recovery is possible for everyone.
