CT Department of Housing (DOH)

On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, CT Department of Housing Commissioner Evonne Klein sent a letter to elected local officials asking them to join Connecticut’s effort to end chronic homelessness by the end of 2016. The letter provides an overview of the state’s accomplishment in ending chronic homelessness among Veterans and Connecticut’s involvement in Zero: 2016, a national initiative to end Veteran homelessness by 2015 and chronic homelessness by 2016.

Commissioner Klein highlights how municipal leaders can assist in this effort in their communities:

  • Sign on the pledge to be a partner with us on Zero: 2016 by clicking here.
  • Contact the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness to learn more about how you can further benefit this initiative.
  • Work with your local Housing Authority to prioritize a percentage of units to house homeless individuals and families.
  • Build affordable housing in your community as a step towards preventing homelessness. suggestions

In the next couple of weeks, DOH will be reaching out to all 169 towns and cities in the state to answer any questions or concerns they might have about participating in this initiative.
