Beat of the Street (BOTS), a newspaper covering issues and stories related to homelessness in the Greater Hartford Region, has released its 3rd edition. The paper serves as a platform for individuals experiencing homelessness to share their stories and insights into the issue of homelessness, with a majority of the work and article submissions for BOTS coming from homeless or formerly homeless individuals. BOTS also strives to create opportunities to gain new skills in leadership, editing, photography and other mediums.
Contributions to this edition include the Beat Poetry Lounge and articles about Veterans Supportive Housing, a women's shelter in Hartford, 2-1-1 and more. The newspaper is distributed to Hartford area homeless assistance programs, including soup kitchens, shelters, and other housing programs. Additionally, the edition is available online for download and will be distributed to companies in downtown Hartford. For now, BOTS will not have vendors sell the paper on downtown sidewalks but may consider this effort in the near future.
