2015 #GivingTuesday Campaign

Amanda Trothier is the Administrative Assistant and Development Associate at Partnership for Strong Communities

In 2014 I had the opportunity to live in Costa Rica as an intern at a wildlife refuge. For four months, the rain forest was my home away from home where I lived remotely among the wildlife, almost off the grid. This was a shocking lifestyle adjustment for me and for most young adults traveling from western civilization. But most of the Costa Ricans I met knew no other way of living. After four months without electricity or a house with walls, without indoor showers or good plumbing, I came to truly appreciate all that my upbringing had offered me.

The experience got me thinking about all of the individuals throughout the world, the U.S. and even in our own state, that live each day not knowing where they will lay their head next, how they will feed their children or whether or not they’ll be able to pay for medical expenses. So I’m hoping you will join me this holiday season and show what you are grateful for by advocating for housing solutions that make sense for everyone because everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home.

You can show your gratitude by participating in #GivingTuesday, a 24-hour day of giving that starts at midnight on December 1st. #GivingTuesday is the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, a day dedicated to advancing knowledge and increasing giving to causes that touch our lives.

Last year, more than 27,000 organizations in 68 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday. Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, creating real change in communities. We invite you to join the movement to get out and give this December 1st!

Your gift to the Partnership will help end homelessness and create affordable housing in Connecticut. It all starts with four walls and a door, with a roof and a space to keep yourself and your family safe and warm. How do we do this? The Partnership leads a broad statewide coalition of tireless and dedicated partner organizations, connecting groups across a range of systems, sectors and services, advocating for state funding and policy changes so that together, we can make our communities better places to live and work.
